Australian Mal Rose was the winner of both Lumina CSV Championship ME races at the Dubai Autodrome races on January 11th & 12th 2007.

The Australian built Lumina (Commodore 300kw) is the support race to the Toyo Tyres 24hr race for the one make series in the Middle East.

Rose, who was competing in the Toyo Tyres Dubai 24hr race, was in the right place to drive one of the cars when the regular driver was unable to race!

As a past Australian Production Car Champion, Rose took to the challenge with excitement, as he has not raced competitively in Production Cars since 1994.

The first practice of these left-hand-drive cars was for a half-hour test. Rose was on top of the time sheets by the last lap, against all the regular drivers & some other invited European drivers.

In qualifying, Mal was again the driver to beat, and after having the Pole Position for most of the session, he was pipped at the end by the 2 Hot shots regulars including another Australian (now living in Dubai) Tarek el Gammal & Bernard ten Brinke.

Race 1

This was a battle between Bernard ten Brinke, Kevin Velvman, Terak el Gammal & Mal Rose. The 10 laps were a typical production car race with lots of sideways drifting, & off road spins. Rose was able to use his vast experience to good use by applying pressure to each opponent, taking a close win by the last lap.

Race 2

Starting at pole position from winning race 1, Rose fired off the grid to a unstoppable 15 sec lead in the first 5 laps, leaving the rest behind in the dust! The LHD Chevy Lumina driven by the Australian was holding a comfortable lead for most of the 10 laps till a fuel pump failed. Rose managed to finish the race ahead of the rivals by just 1 tenth of a second to claim another win.

Rose's weekend wasn't over at the end of Friday's support races as he and his other his 8 other co-drivers were then due to start in the Dubai 24hr race.

Rose again won the A1 class in his Mitsubishi Cup Car, including winning the Teams Prize for being the Best Toyo Tyres car to finish.

Just to top off a perfect week in Dubai, the Mal Rose team was awarded a new Honda 4 wheel motorbike as a prize!
